LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD Ella Jenkins

At 88 and after decades of trailblazing work in the children’s music genre, you’d think Ella Jenkins would be ready to take a breather. But retirement isn’t a word she takes to kindly. “When people retire, they drop out of life a little bit,” says the Grammy-winning folk singer, who lives in Lincoln Park and released her 57th (57th!) album in 2011. “That’s not for me. There’s so much in life to latch on to and embrace”—including touring and writing a book.
