PlayStation Vita delayed, Nintendo slashes price of 3DS console
It ain’t easy keeping up with the fast-moving personal tech industry. (Just ask anyone trying to nail down when Apple’s iPhone 5 will be available.)
Our latest issue of TOC Kids includes the debut of a section devoted to Games, in which we look at two hot handheld consoles, Sony’s PlayStation Vita and Nintendo’s 3DS. As luck would have it, both manufacturers have shaken up their plans since we’ve gone to print.
The Associated Press reported yesterday that Sony Computer Entertainment now plans to release the Vita this year in Japan only. European and U.S. rollouts will happen “early next year,” said CEO Kazuo Hirai.
Hirai also said that Sony does not plan to restructure the Vita’s pricing in light of Nintendo’s July 28 annoucement that suggested retail pricing for its 3DS console has dropped from $250 to $170 to boost lower-than-expected sales.
Looks like that tough holiday-shopping call just got a little less tough.
