The basics
Most people don’t know about the ski jumps in Fox River Grove (about 45 miles northwest of the Loop), which attract some of the best skiers in the country. The jumps range from 2–64 meters.

Requires courage?
Absolutely—although beginners start on the smallest hill.

Bragging rights?
Huge. This may be your chance at Olympic glory!

Norge Ski Club, 100 Ski Hill Rd, Fox River Grove (847-639-9718, norgeskiclub.com). $12 per session for beginners, $15 per session for apprentice jumpers.
If you can’t get enough of flying without an airplane, consider a family membership.
