Museum of Contemporary Art
Tue 10am–8pm; Wed–Sun 10am–5pm
$12 suggested admission, seniors and students $7, kids under 12 free. Tuesdays free for Illinois residentsExpect to experience the edgy, fresh-faced art the museum is known for, with plenty of kids appeal packed in along the way. Current example? “Jim Nutt: Coming Into Character,” imaginary portraits that are serious modern art and can at times be quite graphic depictions, but high on bright colors, wacky shapes and comic-book style, bizarre details that are kid friendly.
Look out for MCA Family Days, where from 11am–3pm on the second Saturdays of each month, families with kids age 12 and under get free admission and petit artistes can make crafts linked to current exhibits such as the one above, then take home their masterpieces—because you likely don’t have enough fridge art already. Can't make it then? The museum is free every Tuesday, every week.
