“Cookbooks were my ‘books,’” says the renowned chef-restaurateur (Frontera Grill, XOCO). “My favorite childhood book was Betty Crocker’s Cookbook for Boys and Girls. It was my very first cookbook and a gift from my parents.” Bayless received one of his many James Beard awards for Rick and Lanie’s Excellent Kitchen Adventures (Harry N. Abrams), the cookbook he wrote with his teenage daughter, Lanie.
