All-ages CD release party at the Hideout | Preview

“I always kind of joke that the world doesn’t need another rock band,” jokes Future Hits frontman Matt Baron. But that didn’t stop him from forming his own group—one with a purpose: to weave learning skills into pop melodies.

In our latest issue of TOC Kids, we told you about Baron and Noel McNally, two Chicago Public School teachers with some serious music cred. Excepting maybe Superman, it's hard to imagine who registers such long hours in pursuit of the greater good than teachers. This particular duo have separately harnessed their musical talents to create albums that interweave kindie tunes with reading-curriculum lessons.

We’ve included this video preview of Baron, who teaches English as a second language on the city's Northwest Side (at both Edison Park and Garvy elementary schools). Give a listen to the jangly ditty "At the Library" before you catch the entire Future Hits band, along with Little Miss Anne, this Saturday at the Hideout (1354 W Wabansia, 773-227-4433; tickets $10, kids $5) for the all-ages CD release show celebrating Future Hits' Songs for Learning.
