Put your flippers together for Piquet! The Shedd Aquarium’s Pacific white-sided dolphin gave birth to a calf May 28, 2012 at 10:34pm. The gender of the 'lil swimmer is still TBD, but it appears to be healthy and bonding with its mother (as evidenced by the photos above).

The pregnancy was the product of a cooperative breeding program with the Miami Seaquarium—there are fewer than 20 Pacific white-sided dolphins in North American facilities. The young dolphin must now overcome a number of difficult milestones such as continuing to bond with its mother, learning to nurse and learning to feed independently, which is why both mom and babe will be off public view until the first critical phase has ended.
