Girl Scout Cookie Classic | Daley Bicentennial Plaza, Grant Park | September 8, 2012

As part of the org's centennial celebration, the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana threw its inaugural Cookie Classic, a 5K run and walk, on Saturday, September 8. Looking over the fun photos we took, I'm inspired to share a few observations.
First of all, I'm delighted they had such good weather for the event, held in Grant Park. Secondly, if someone had told me a couple months ago, "Hey dummy! You better sign up early, because registration is going to sell out," I'd've been forever in their debt, because there were indeed Girl Scout cookies at the event. Given that the Time Out Chicago Kids staff's collective love of these cookies—and especially the legendary Thin Mint—is well documented, I'm kicking myself for not running. I should've just taken it on faith that any event billed as the Cookie Classic would include the delectable edibles.
We did, however, have a photographer on hand to snap pics of the festive fun (which include one girl with green hair! and cookies—did we mention the cookies?). We're already marking our calendar for next year's celebration. In the meantime, we can all enjoy this slideshow.
