Slate "We Need A Nap" Ruched Racerback Tank, $39.99; Ultimate Maternity Fitness Pant, $59.99

I went running the other night and received some serious looks. Some of admiration; some horror. A few of them were accompanied by giggles.

It’s not that I have a really humorous running form or horns growing from my head. It's that I’m pregnant. The giggles are probably about the shirt I was wearing, which read “We’re hungry.”

Created by For Two Fitness, the shirt ($39.99) and the brand’s ultimate maternity fitness pants ($59.99) have become my most-treasured maternity items. The brand, which is only about a year old, has an entire collection of stylish and super-comfy performance wear for preggos. I find the slogans on many of their shirts really charming (I’m looking at you, “We need a nap” tank). I love that the words help clarify that I am indeed with child and not just sporting a beer gut, although they also offer their tops without the slogans. The best feature, though, is the shirts’ ability to grow with you using ruched sides and a stretchy cotton/spandex blend fabric.

The pants are a real treat. I couldn't wear the tank top at the very beginning because it was still a little baggy. But the pants are so versatile in their fit that I plan to wear them long after having the baby. By folding the waistband at various spots, I can enjoy a makeshift belly-band or even normal non-pregnant yoga wear. This is a huge benefit, especially because I'm on a budget and don't want to buy clothes to wear for less than a year.

As a budget-shopper, I should add that I’m not filling my closet with these workout items. I’m mostly working out in over-sized T-shirts and getting along just fine. But it’s nice to have the option of cute gear from time to time—take it from me, pregnant runners need all the motivation they can get.
