Restaurants where kids eat free
5201 S Harper Ct (773-241-5200, park52chicago.com). Brunch (Sun), lunch, dinner. Average main course: $23.
Jerry Kleiner brought midscale swank and classic American eats to Hyde Park’s Harper Court, making for a nice night out for locals who wanted more options. But local Marc Brooks took the reins from Kleiner, with chef Armando Diaz executing behind the scenes. Try a “Samurai” New York strip or pan-seared halibut flavored with smoked tomato vinaigrette, or go for one of the chef’s specials like shrimp and grits with a hint of crushed red pepper. After dishes like those you’ll have a hard time getting up, made no easier by the dining room’s comfy banquettes. The kids’ menu features skirt steak, chicken breast, mac and cheese and other classic American yummies. Little diners often go for the sliders; three mini beef burgers that come with fries. One kid age 10 or younger eats free with the purchase of an adult entrée on Thursdays from 5–7pm.
